S\u00e5 f\u00f6rh\u00e5ller det sig ocks\u00e5 i de \u00f6vriga medlemstaterna inom EU. Tyv\u00e4rr \u00e4r inte efterlevnaden lika h\u00f6g \u00f6verallt. I synnerhet i Medelhavsl\u00e4nderna \u00e4r respekten f\u00f6r f\u00e5geldirektivet underm\u00e5lig och omfattande illegal jakt bedrivs p\u00e5 f\u00e5glar som uppe hos oss \u00e4r fredade. Rovf\u00e5glar i stora antal sk\u00f6ts ner under sin flyttning fr\u00e5n Afrika via Messinaomr\u00e5det vid Sicilien och Kalabrien s\u00f6dra Italien. Skotten kom fr\u00e5n hustak, balkonger, specialg\u00f6mslen \u2013 \u00f6verallt bedrevs denna barbariska, illegala F\u00e5gelstr\u00e4cket observerades och eventuell illegal jakt noterades och rapporterades vidare till polis och paramilit\u00e4r. De f\u00f6rsta \u00e5ren var arbetet farligt och sv\u00e5rt. F\u00e5gelskyddarna utsattes f\u00f6r olika hot och blev till och med beskjutna samtidigt som polis och paramilit\u00e4r var passiva gentemot dessa brott. Efter mycket m\u00e5linriktat arbete har dock b\u00e4ttre kontakt efterhand etablerats mellan f\u00e5gelskyddare och myndigheter och \u00e4ven de senare har b\u00f6rjat agera mer aktivt.<\/p><p>Det internationella inslaget i f\u00e5gelskyddsarbetet har spelat stor roll. Varje v\u00e5r sedan 1983 arrangeras l\u00e4ger d\u00e5 str\u00e4cket p\u00e5g\u00e5r d\u00e4r f\u00e5gelv\u00e4nner fr\u00e5n en l\u00e5ng rad l\u00e4nder deltar. En av arrang\u00f6rerna av Bivr\u00e5kens Dag har\u00a0 bes\u00f6kt f\u00e5gelskyddsl\u00e4gren i Kalabrien och Sicilien sju g\u00e5nger, f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen 1993, och ber\u00e4ttar: &#8221;Det blev en skakande erfarenhet.
